Liquid Ring Pump Animation

How Does a Liquid Ring Pump Work?

Overview

A liquid ring pump is a positive displacement pump that uses a rotating impeller to create a liquid ring against the pump casing. This liquid ring forms a seal that prevents gas from entering the pump, making it ideal for applications where vacuum is required.

Principle of Operation

An offset rotor is placed in a cylindrical housing. As the rotor spins, it draws fluid into the pump through an inlet port. The fluid is then trapped between the impeller vanes and the liquid ring. As the impeller continues to rotate, the fluid is compressed and discharged through an outlet port. The liquid ring acts as a seal, preventing gas from entering the pump and maintaining vacuum.

Advantages of Liquid Ring Pumps
